In the time before Gilgamesh...before Sumerians had Donkey-Karts and before Elamites had Hay-Wagons...
Their ancestors, the early I/1a Sumerians are mostly just Solid Bows, and the I/5a Early Susiana & Elam are (optionally) mostly Psiloi. I'm intrigued at how that would play as a game. The Sumerians' archery alone won't destroy the Elamites' skirmishers, which are faster than the slow Sumerians.
Would this cat & mouse game be entertaining? Or maddening? Curious as to others' experience and/or speculation with this matchup.

Both have ‘arable’ as home terrain, so the defender would ideally chose terrain to work to their advantage. The Elamites would sow the board with difficult hills, wood and rocky ground, while the Sumerian would favour an open plain. As Sumerian, I would look for allies that could counter a psiloi heavy Elamite army, possibly the Early Bedouin. I plan to add the Nubian to the Biblical collection and although they have a similar problem with eight archers (3Bw) they do make use of ‘steppe’ terrain as defender.

Agreed that it's the terrain would add spice to this clash of these two, monochromatic armies. I never think of the Allies option you suggested, as our local group has never included them in all the years we've been playing. Figures for both armies are en-route. I'm already looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
