Today is the last day of the PEL.
I will host a DBA event on Friday or Saturday during the day if there are 5 or 6 players interested in a DBA event, probably just an open at this HMGS east event in Lancaster PA.
There will be no conflict with Washington Grand Company events in that time slot, although there will be a lot of ADLG gaming on going.
Let me know if you will be there!

I'm planning to attend Cold Wars (this will be my first HMGS convention). I had been hoping to play in the DBA event, though it would be handy to know the scale and any other limitations.

Can't make it myself but anyone that can possibly drop in - please make an effort to do so. Thanks Mike for running an event. I suggest just getting one in the schedule and seeing if you can get some interest. It would be nice to re-establish a Cold War presence. Mike I'm appointing you DBA Duke of the East.
Mike has both 15 & 25s so he can do either or both - just go for it.
French game events are massive - no way to avoid. While we all worried about DBA3.0/Triumph they have sweep the field. Presentation and Inovation have carried the day despite DBX having the overall better system (and I do recognize that the French game is within the broad DBX family).

Submitted two events to Dan. One for Friday and one for Saturday at 930 Am. The Friday event is a classic open event, bring your 5 elephant armies, your double based Swiss, your dismounting Tibetans; rules as written, whatever you want.
Saturday also at 930 AM, if anyone shows up, we'll do an Early Byzantine theme event. All armies are either Count Belisarius, early Byzantine, or ENEMIES thereof. No one else, No Qaramita, no Indians, no HYW English.
Each event could be three rounds.
Qualify for the Nationals!
Avoid the French Disease!
And you can still play Trxxxxh later each day. I will, and I won't feel guilty about it.
Please post here if you think you can come. I can loan armies if you contact me in time. I'll bring a bunch of Byzantine guys.

Ug. I'm going to have to withdraw my earlier strong commitment. I have been informed (this afternoon) that there is a good chance I will have to travel (to China) in March, exactly overlapping Cold Wars. Assuming I do make it, I will bring a 15mm Warring States Chinese (specifically II/4c "Chao", who appear to have been a particularly unruly bunch of rebels, rather than anyone important) and some boring not-home-built terrain patches. If I finish painting the Chinese with time to spare, I'll take a look into Byzantine options. It would be a good excuse to diversify a bit. Preview of the work in-progress: Attachments:

Don't worry about Byzantines. I used that theme because I have all the armies. I'll bring them up. I just hope some more people will show up and play.

Alright! The threatened travel is happening in April rather than March, because work needs me close to home in March. So I'm as good as confirmed for Cold Wars this year. The army is coming along nicely too.

Hi there! Totally new player here (as in, no games at all!). I'm interested in the Friday tournament.

I'd be interested. I'm new to DBA and would love to learn. Plan is to get the rules and a couple armies at Cold Wars

I am interested in playing DBA at Cold Wars. The Tournament listing on the Cold Wars site shows both events as taking place on Friday morning, which seemed unlikely, and I gather from the above that the Open event is on Friday and the Byzantine one on Saturday? I am playing in the DBMM tournament on Friday, which is an all-day affair, so I guess I would be looking to participate in the Saturday morning Byzantine event. However, while I have many DBA armies, I do not own any suitable for the focus of that event, though it appears that there will be loaners available?

A horrible error. First, the events are Friday morning and Saturday morning as you surmised. Both events are 15mm. Events usually last 3 rounds or a bit more than 3 hours. I will bring Byzantine army loaners. BUT, if there is more interest in playing an open event on Saturday and everyone is ok with it then we can have a second open. We can also have a THIRD event any evening if players wish.

Do we have to formally sign up for the tournament via the registration, somehow? When I registered to attend, I only saw signups for one's preferred set-piece game + whether you wanted vendor space (or that's what I assumed it was about, since the for wasn't super clear for a newcomer).

Don't switch to Open on my account. I prefer historically-themed events over Open tournaments, and the tighter, the better. I think the DBA lists are generally more even in historical match-ups, and I like there to be some semblance of history in my historical miniatures gaming, without taking that too far! I'd probably be up for some evening DBA, too.
