Have you ever chose an army you initially disliked or would never of built? If so did you grow to like it or do you still dislike it or wish you hadn't chose to do it?

Probably not quite what you asked, but I got a 15mm Aztec army as I fancied something with lots of Hordes for a change, but then found some Libyan figures which were a lot easier to paint up. Now I've got that army, the Aztecs are sitting in the 'I'll get around to painting them sometime, maybe' pile.
Also got some figures for an Alexandrian Macedonian, but having seen it's performance at Tarrington, where I think it's twice come bottom, I'm not that inspired to get them painted up either!

The early Andalusian list, picked them up for the Autumn PAWS theme, ended up being the wrong list, used them at the English Open and basically swore off ever using them again. Maybe I should paint up the 4 spearmen choice for them rather than using 8 psiloi though...
I could have taken them to Tarrington, but knowing I would have to play with them in the last game just made me want to cry a little inside.

I have an army in the planning/acquiring stage that I shouldn't care for but because of the figures I hope I will grow to like. In general I like everything fast in 3.0 - Fast Bw, Pk Ax. I've been known to say that 4Ax "aren't worth the primer" for instance. So why do I have the Eureka Almughauar (4Ax) figures for a IV/60 Catalan Company army? Because I love the figures. I'll just have to see if I can learn to live with their slow-moving butts on the tabletop.

Folks,
I bought and painted up an Early Armenian army (II/28b) for a campaign based competition (MOAB 2016). Irregular Miniatures figures, which I like to paint, it looks pretty good IMO. But sadly its gone 0-12 in competitions, and I don't think its ever coming out onto a table again. It just lacks .... something ...
Its not even fun to lose with. <sigh>

The last project, ‘Under the Black Banner’ I added the Bagdad Buyid Dailami army, not because they were an asset to the collection, but I had enough foot figures to make the 4 x 4Ax.
Their debut performance was brief as they claimed their tickets to paradise. Subsequent games, they were swapped for Kurdish allies (3Kn) who partook in the victory celebrations.
